Melaleuca is a network marketing company based in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  It has been run by the current CEO and President Frank  VanderSloot since it was founded in 1985 with seven people.  The company has manufacturing and distribution facilities in Idaho Falls and nearby Roxburg.

They are an international company and operate in the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Macao, Singapore, South Korea, and the huge market in China.

The company sales have grown close to the $1 billion mark and creating even larger sales may still be possible.

The company is a privately held company therefore does not trade on the stock exchange.

Melaleuca helps others through it’s Melaleuca Foundation which is currently focused on being the sole financial backer for an orphanage in Quito, Ecuador. The name of the orphanage is Santa Lucia Children’s Home.  Donations are tax deductible for US citizens.

Products

Melaleuca products are designed to provide healthier less toxic products to the consumer.

Their nutritional supplements address a number of issues such as urinary tract health, immune health and heart health. One supplement is ProStolic which Melaleuca states is the first and only heart supplement to mantain healthy blood pressure through a proprietary formulation.  They further state that 12 human studies over a period of 10 years have shown that tripeptides used in ProStolic  help promote healthy blood flow.

There are a large number of products for personal body care such as the shower gels, shampoo, lotion, perfume, sun lotion and shaving care.  They also carry Nicole Miller’s line of skin care and cosmetics.

Melaleuca products also include nutritional bars for performance and fibre and also carry a small line of medicine cabinet products like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, lip balm and cough drops.

For housekeeping, there are less toxic products. Some of the products are laundry detergent and softeners, household cleaners for the kitchen and bathroom and window cleaning.  The products may be less toxic than some products that you buy elsewhere.  However, the move is on in places like Walmart to have more ecologically sound products which would be at a much lesser cost to the consumer than buying from Melaleuca.

The Melaleuca website says that they have kept 21,856 tons of phosphates out of the environment since 2002.

Business

A Melaleuca business would appeal to individuals who like using less toxic chemicals in their homes and are interested in personal care products and nutritional supplements.   With the number of countries that it is active in, Melaleuca does provide you with the possibility to reach a large number of people.

But as with all network marketing companies, very few will ever make any life changing income with Melaleuca.  Most will not make  any substantial income.  However, the majority that fail in a Melaleuca business will have spent money setting up as a business and never make that money back.

Can you succeed with a Melaleuca business?  Yes, and there will be an extremely small percentage that join every year that will go on to create a significant income.  But sadly, the numbers of income earners with a substantial income with Melaleuca will be very small.
