Wow Idaho Falls? Booooring!! Haha, only cuz I grew up in Blackfoot!! I’m pretty sure I-15 is the ONLY route because it is the only interstate that runs through Idaho besides state highways. Head to Tennessee, than through Kentucky, than Illinois, than Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming than into Idaho. 2000 miles about 30 hours of non stop driving. Good luck. Nothing to gorgeous to see.
Response #1 might be a little harsh, but they’re not wrong. If you want excellent scenery, it might be better to take a slight detour through western Montana and northern Idaho using I-90, then loop back (using US-95 and I-84/86) to I-15 and Idaho Falls. That would add an extra day or so to your trip, so you’d might have to beeline it through earlier parts of your drive.
Try this and yes I have driven it in winter
Pop this into whatever mapping service your using and just ignore their point to point times
ATL > Amarillo TX >Gallup NM> Window Rock AZ>Chinle AZ>Cortez CO[ Mesa Verde NP ] >Mexican Hat UT >GCN>Lees Ferry AZ> Mount Carmel Junction UT >Hurricane UT
Stop:
At Hurricane you wil have 2 choices
If the weater is bad on US 89 then take I-15 N to your destination
However if it’s not then do this
Hurricane UT>Escalante UT >Torrey UT [ loop over to visit Capitol Reef NP]Nephi UT >Idaho Falls ID
What this routing basically does is it takes you across the route of the old Rt 66>OKC to Gallup
Across the Navajo Reservation>Window Rock is it’s capitol
Over to Mesa Verde NP>a must see sight for all Americans
Thru Four Corners
Over to and thru Monument Valley >Mexican Hat is on the Northern of it
Across the Navajo an Hopi Reservations to Grand Canyon NP and then back tracking to cross the Colorado River on the Navajo bridge at Lees Ferry
Over the N.Rim of GCNP then downhill thru Zion NP
Back tracking again up hill thru Zion to Bryce and Capitol Reef NPs
With the exception of Lees Ferry [use Page AZ ]
Mount Carmel Junction {Use Kanab UT ] and Torrey UT there is lodging to be had in all of the places that I mentioned>It may not be 4 star but it is there
